Much loved town centre restaurant closes ‘with heavy heart’

27th August 2025

A popular town centre restaurant has closed its doors for the final time.

Staff at the Hungry Monk Alehouse and Kitchen thanked their customers both old and new in an emotional farewell post shared earlier today.

The restaurant’s owners say they have made the difficult decision to close to focus on family, with the restaurant’s owner sadly in ill health.

It has been a staple of the town centre for eleven years and was a popular venue due to its famous tribute acts and eclectic decor.

A post by the Monk’s Facebook page says: “It’s with heavy hearts that we share some difficult news

“The Hungry Monk Restaurant has closed its door for a final time. Sadly, due to illness of our owner, we are no longer able to continue running the business and need to focus on their health and our family.

“We’re really sorry to anyone who has a booking with us and we are trying to call each one of you.

”If you’ve paid a deposit, please don’t worry we will of course be refunding these. Any worries please just drop us a message at info@thehungrymonk.co.uk.

“Over the past 11 years, we’ve been blessed with the most amazing customers and it’s been such a pleasure to serve you all.

”To our wonderful staff past and present, the love and support you’ve shown us has meant everything, and we will treasure the memories we’ve made together forever.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of The Hungry Monk family. With love, The Hungry Monk!”
