9th January 2019

Tributes have been paid to a much loved Southport bookstore owner after he passed away.

Friends of Parkinson’s Bookshop owner Tony Parkinson announced with great pain & sadness, his passing shortly before New Year.

Tony suddenly passed away in the early hours of 28th December, surrounded by his family.

Parkinsons Books started through Tony doing book searches from home in the late 70s before he went on to open his first shop on Princess Street in 1981.

The following years saw the shop grow & take it’s place on Lord Street, encompassing the old shell shop, minerals fossils, antiquities & records.

Over the past 2 years the shop has been hosting “one off” events, showcasing local & international DJ talent, called Audio Book.

Tony had a masters in Zoology & has taught across the North West & Europe, including Manchester University.

Tony’s funeral procession will pass the book shop for one last time & arrive at Southport Crematorium at 2pm on January 14th.

The wake will be held at Southport Rugby Club from 3pm onwards.

Family have asked for donations to be made to The British Heart Foundation in place of flowers.
