Southport MP Damien Moore has waded into the acid attack scandal in Southport, writing to the home secretary to urge for tougher laws on corrosive liquid attacks.

MP Moore said: “Last week, one of my constituents was injured with a corrosive liquid in a shocking and unprovoked attack whilst walking home.

“He was left with serious burns to his face and eyes, and injuries that can only be described as life-changing.

“Since then, several constituents have written to ask me to raise this issue in Parliament, and today I have written to the Home Secretary to ask for an update on the government review launched in July.

“I firmly believe that the sentencing of offenders who choose to use corrosive liquid to carry out their heinous crimes does not reflect the damage done to their victims and have further called for changes to the sale of corrosive substances and tougher sentencing.”
