Motorcyclist, 23, killed in collision

A 23-year-old man has died following a collision in Whittle-le-Woods.

Police were called to Preston Road at 2.45pm yesterday (Sunday, July 10) following reports of an accident.

Officers attended and found a 23-year-old man with multiple injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the man had been riding a red Honda motorcycle northbound on Preston Road when he approached the junction with Factory Lane.

As the motorcyclist neared the junction, a BMW car has attempted to turn right onto Preston Road from Factory Lane.

The two vehicles collided with the man suffering fatal injuries.

The driver of the BMW, a 40-year-old woman from Bolton, suffered whiplash injuries and was treated for shock.

The road was closed for more than four hours while accident investigators attended.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the collision.

Sgt Rob Gomery, of Lancashire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family and friends of this man at this sad time.

“We are appealing for any witnesses to come forward to help with our enquiries.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the motorcyclist before the collision or may have witnessed the incident.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.”
