Motorbikes left outside homes stolen overnight in Southport

28th July 2021

Three motorcycles and one scooter have been reported as having been stolen in the Southport area overnight (Tuesday 27th – Wednesday 28th July).

All three motorcycles are 125cc motorcycles, able to be ridden with L plates and all were left outside in front of properties overnight.

Thieves are clearly targeting this type of bike in this situation therefore, if you have a bike that is not secured in a shed or garage for the night, then it is time to take extra measures to secure your bike/scooter. Steering locks alone are not sufficient. Sturdy chains or D locks will make it more difficult for thieves. Alarms will alert you to anyone tampering with your bike. Even covers over your bike can make a difference in making them less identifiable as models the thieves are looking for.

Where possible, always keep your bike locked and secure inside a shed or garage and me mindful of posting phots on social media of where it is kept to reduce the risks of becoming a victim of this type of crime.

The offenders are likely to be using vans to move the bikes. Please be vigilant for anyone paying attention to your bike when it is parked up or any vans seen in suspicious circumstances close to your home.
