The emergency services were called to Liverpool Road at around 2pm following a 999 call.
The cause of the accident is not yet known. Merseyside police were at the scene collecting statements from witnesses.
A local resident quoted:
“A girl was trapped inside, the emergency services managed to free her and she was taken to hospital.
FMC vehicle recovery team removed both cars from the road at around 3.15pm.
