Southport’s very own internet station is now broadcasting after its official launch today (Thursday).

Mighty Southport Radio will deliver a mix of popular music plus features on local and national issues.

There will also be specialist shows featuring a wide range of music including rock, soul and punk. And the station will provide a much-needed and community-minded platform for our local musicians and bands.

The station used to be called Mighty FM and was based in a studio inside Southport Market.

It’s now housed just outside the town centre and embraces all the latest mobile technology, thanks to sound engineer and technology expert Paul Tasker. The new technology allows listeners to access the station via their computers or their tablets and phones.

“We’ve spent the past six months getting ready for this,” explained Dave Quinn and Trevor Ford, owners of the new station, who also host their own show every Sunday night.

“Our presenters have lots of experience in commercial and community radio so we’re ready to go.

“People who listened to us when we were Mighty FM will soon realise we have become tighter, more professional and yet we’ve managed to retain that very special sense of humour.”

The presenter line-up has been boosted by the arrival of former Rock FM host Danny Bee and commercial radio favourite Ginge.

Heartbeat actor and resort resident David Lonsdale returns with his Sunday arts scene show, while

Southport Visiter columnist Martin Hovden will once again provide an excellent opportunity for our local bands and musicians with Live Sounds every Wednesday night.

Sean Connolly plus David Richardson are promising lots of fun on their show. And Karen Johnson is hoping to become the station’s Frasier (“I’m listening!”) with her help and advice programme.

Other presenters include Marc Anthony, Chris Strefford, Mark Gregson, Kev Peet, Steve Mighty Mitch, Woz Rimmer plus Russ and Sheila (who host The Not Richard and Judy show).

The station broadcasts on www.mightysouthport.co.uk and you can listen via your computer or you can download special apps for your mobile devices including phones and tablets. Just go to the station’s website for details.
