1st April 2021

Thursday 1st April 2021 (it’s no fool!) mark’s Mighty Radio’s second year on the frequency 107.9 FM.

Mighty Radio launched on 107.9 FM on 1st April 2019 after being awarded a license for Southport.

Trevor Ford (MD) said: “The past 2 years have gone really quick; more and more people are tuning in to the Breakfast Show with All White Taxis, interacting with Wilson Autobodies Mid-Morning Show with Cassie James, Paul Tasker’s Drivetime show with Autoclarity. All of our shows have had such a great response from the listeners and businesses. I love getting up of a morning and giving listeners local content for Southport. Supporting local businesses too with the current pandemic and getting businesses involved within the community, this is what Mighty Radio is all about.

Sean Connolly (MD) said: “Mighty Radio gives local information, this is vital for Southport, with other stations around us coming from Manchester/London.  If you haven’t told your friends yet… get them to tune in to your local radio station for Southport on 107.9 FM, download our app, or listen online at www.mightyradio.co.uk

Paul Tasker (Station Manager) said: “It’s been challenging the past 2 years, I look back and we have done so much, even during a pandemic being stuck at home. We have managed to still get the local information broadcasted across our town. From working with local food banks, Xmas Toy Appeals, Charity events and giving out local information as regards to all of the Coronavirus local tier rules and test centres; I’d like to thank all of our 30+ presenters and the team of people i have at Mighty Radio. I would also like to express my thanks of support from our Advertisers, Sponsors and thanks to: All White Taxis, Wilson Autobodies and Autoclarity for all of their recent on air activity. Mark Cunningham and the team at Anthony James Estate agents who home our radio station have also been fantastic. They made National News this year with a big Mural of Sir Captain Tom Moore, which was painted by Robert Newbiggin and appeared outside, situated at the side of our Studio.”

“With the success of Mighty Radio in Southport, Mighty Radio has received some exciting news, just in time for our second birthday on 107.9 FM. Mighty Radio has recently been awarded a DAB license for Leeds by broadcast regulator Ofcom.

“I know it has been an unusual year with the economy, the pandemic and with everyone’s day to day lives, but i will assist with regular zoom meetings from Southport to Leeds, to ensure that all the team at Leeds, get my full support. I’m proud of all of our 30+ volunteers at Mighty Radio Southport; I also want the volunteers at Mighty Radio Leeds to gain the same skills, same enjoyment and passion for Radio as i have. Mighty radio is growing and mighty will always be local to its served town.

“We also have more expansion plans ahead for Southport with the recent power increase for our transmission site in Southport, and we are excited for the town. Happy Birthday Mighty and I’m excited already with the recent news of £37.5 million investment for Southport… which will create up to 1,000 additional new jobs and for the transformation to our town.

“A huge thanks to all of our listeners for tuning in and for your support across the Southport Coast.”
