A former Southport musician who now lives in Canada has written an amazing rap song about the town of his birth – and it’s going to receive its UK radio debut on Mighty Southport Radio tonight.

Phil Bridge was born in the town in 1973 and went to Meols Cop High School and Southport College.

Aged 42, he has been writing and producing his own music since the age of 26 and now resides in Alberta, Canada.

He’s written a very amusing and entertaining rap song called STP which captures his memories and those of his friends of our town.

He explained: “I was working a night shift just before Christmas and the hook of the song was in my head. The song was about Southport and I wanted to know what my friends who I grew up with thought about the town.

“So I asked all my Facebook friends for their memories of Southport and I was amazed by how many comments were made. It was fun to see how many memories we all had.”

Phil, who is also known as The DP, added: “There were so many comments I couldn’t squeeze them all in.”

His song STP will be played tonight on Live Sounds show on Mighty Southport Radio (7pm-10pm).

Phil has made a Youtube video of the song and it’s already had more than 1,00 hits. You can watch it on.
