Merseyside Volunteer Police Cadet

26th October 2018

Merseyside Volunteer Police Cadet

The Merseyside Police Volunteer Cadet Scheme provides an opportunity  for young people aged 16 – 18 to get involved in an exciting one-year program, which has been designed to develop key life skills, enhance your CV and help to prepare you for your future career, whether this be within the police service or another profession.  You will be working with a core team of Police officers, Police staff, PCS&TOs and Volunteers.  You will be expected to wear a Police Cadet Uniform throughout the program.

The scheme, which has been running for a number of years, offers an opportunity for young people to take part in a nationally accredited scheme to provide an insight into the work of Merseyside Police.

The scheme aims to engage and develop young people, to help them engage them with their communities and encourage them to become positive role models and ambassadors among their peers.

While many cadets do consider a career in the police service, this is not always the case and is certainly not a bar to recruitment, as most of the skills and experiences they obtain will be transferable to other walks of life.

They will have the opportunity to learn more about the police service with insights and visits to many departments including the Dogs and Mounted Section, Firearms, the control room, public order training, court visits and many more.

Other activities include involvement in fundraising events, local problem solving exercises, involvement in local community activity, high profile civic events, first aid training and an insight into the policing of football matches. There will also be a number of teambuilding events such as dragon boat racing, other outdoor activities and the opportunity to work towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award.

To be eligible, candidates must have a date of birth ranging from 01/09/2001- 31/08/2002 or be a year 12 student or equivalent. Applicants will be subject to Police vetting.

If you meet the eligibility criteria and would like to register your interest, please email your full name and date of birth to the citizens in policing team Volunteer.police.cadets@merseyside.pnn.police.uk
