Two trains from the Merseyrail Fleet were transported to South Wales for scrap over the weekend, ahead of the introduction of the new 777 fleet.

A YouTube video shows 508110 and 508134 being led through Hawarden Station in Deeside from Birkenhead North depot to Sims Scrapyard in Newport, South Wales.

It’s understood the two units are the first to be scrapped from the existing fleet.

Merseyrail have purchased 52 777 class trains which are due to enter operation this year. The option exists to purchase an additional 60 units if the size of the local rail network is extended.
