MATCH REPORT | Burscough 0-2 Ramsbottom

Burscough 0-2 Ramsbottom

Burscough come undone again at Victoria Park in the final game of the season.

The opening thirty minutes were pretty even but was dominated by Rams striker Ryan Salmon. He felt aggrieved on several occasions and choose to blast foul mouthed expletives at both the officials and his team mates. He was flagged numerus times for offside but instead of carrying on with the game decided to almost embarrass himself. He was also vocal towards his own bench, questioning his manager’s motives and tactics much to the disbelief of the crowd.

The rest of the first half was for anybody’s taking but remained a somewhat scrappy affair as the tiring effects of the season started to show. Notably Gilchrist for Burscough and Salmon for Ramsbottom.

Salmon then backed up his earlier rant by putting the visitor’s ahead minutes into the second half, arguably against they run of play. After several warnings in the first half the incensed forward picked up on a loose ball inside the box and silenced the home support who had earlier booed and jeered his antics.

Burscough had their own chances to level the scores but wasted several opportunities including an absolute sitter from Adam Gilchrist who fired his header over the bar from just five yards out.

Burscough continued to create chances but left themselves open and exposed at the back. Which in turn left The Rams attack free to double their lead.

Burscough Manager Keith McCann had five subs to use from the youth squad to inject fresh legs but chose not to do so.

Then a moment to forget from Burscough Goalkeeper Ben Morrow. Salmon at the centre of things again pressurised the ‘keeper inside his own six-yard box and he was unable to clear leaving the striker possibly the easiest finish he’s had all season.

Gaz Seddon also played his final game of his long football career today at Victoria Park.
