Southport-born Jack Rodwell put pen to paper at about 7:30pm tonight (Sunday 12th August 2012) and signed for Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City in a reported £10M deal.

The 21-year-old has impressed since breaking into the Toffees team and Roberto Mancini believes he is worth every penny.

The Barclays Premier League champions overcome both Chelsea and Manchester United who also wanted to sign Rodwell.

Rodwell will join a busy midfield which already boasts Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong and star man Yaya Toure.

City want to acquire young British talent in order to fit in with Premier League regulations about homegrown players.

Rodwell has represented his country at all levels from Under-16 to the senior team, and becomes City’s first summer signing.
