Man charged with attempted murder after Virginia Street attack

Police have named and charged a Southport man with attempted murder following a horrific knife attack in the town centre.

Detectives have charged 50 year-old Leslie Marshall with attempted murder following an incident in Virginia Street in Southport on Friday 25th June.

Marshall, of Virginia Street, was remanded into custody to appear at Merseyside Domestic Violence Remand Court this morning, Monday 28th June.

A 48 year-old woman who was injured during the incident remains in hospital in a stable condition.

During the investigation Multiple officers were seen protecting the property exterior while investigations were conducted inside. Officers could be seen exploring both upstairs and downstairs inside the property through the open front door.

Officers also searched down an alleyway next to the property.

Merseyside Police said: “We have charged a 50 year-old man with attempted murder following an incident in Virginia Street in Southport on Friday 25th June.

“Leslie Marshall, of Virginia Street, was remanded into custody to appear at Merseyside Domestic Violence Remand Court this morning, Monday 28th June.

“A 48 year-old woman who was injured during the incident remains in hospital in a stable condition.”
