Man arrested for multiple offences after Birkdale Cheese Centre crash

A man has been arrested for multiple offences after crashing a Suzuki 4×4 into the front of the Birkdale Cheese Centre.

Officers were called to the store on Liverpool Road in Birkdale at approximate 9.30pm yesterday evening.

The vehicle was recovered from the scene and officers assisted the staff in cleaning debris from the front of the store. Efforts were made through the night to secure the shop front.

Merseyside Police said: “We were contacted at 9.30pm last night, Sunday 25th April, following reports a Suzuki Jimney had mounted the kerb and crashed into the front of the Birkdale Cheese centre on Liverpool Road in Southport.

“A 40 year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while unfit to drive through drink or drugs, theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

He is currently in custody where he will be questioned by officers.”
