Lord Street’s last remaining ‘department store’ to shut down

17th October 2020

The last of Lord Street’s large scale retail units is set to close down.

The Edinburgh Woollen Mill on the corner of Lord Street and Hulme Street has revealed it will be closing down and all items are now drastically reduced.

Bosses at Edinburgh Woollen Mill (EWM), which also owns clothing chain Peacocks, confirmed on Friday that 50 stores would shut with the loss of 600 jobs.

One of those stores will be the Lord Street branch.

EWM, owned by billionaire businessman Philip Day, has 1,100 stores for its retail brands, which also includes the fashion chain Jaeger.

It’s since been confirmed the entire company is on the brink of collapse, with management revealing they would appoint administrators in an attempt to save the business.
