Dozens of children had their photographs taken with the lantern.
The 2012 Paralympic Games begins Wednesday, 29 August 2012, and ends Sunday, 9 September 2012.
Lizzie Simpkin attended her first Paralympic games in 2008 and showed she possesses the talent for gold in 2012 after placing fifth in the backstroke and sixth in the butterfly in the iconic water cube stadium. To back up this success she recently gained European bronze in the 100m butterfly and back stroke. This has all been achieved after being at least several years younger than her competitors.
As she continues to improve, the ultimate gold in 2012 seems to be closing in for the youngster from Southport. With time on her side the future looks bright for this precocious swimmer. Lizzie said: “My training for these games was interrupted by illness but I hope to go to Rio”
