War veterans have turned out to protect Southport Monument after they feared rival protestors would try and deface the war memorial
A protest is taking place outside Southport town hall to support the Black Lives Matter campaign but those fearing destruction of the monument, including veterans of war, have set up a rival protest to the war memorial.
Both sets of protestors were watched closely by police in the immediate moments after chanting started and there have been no arrests made.
Its thought both groups are acting peacefully and are being kept distanced from each other by police officers
