Traffic bulletin: Drivers urged to take extra care in high winds

Southport has been battered by Storm Ciara this morning with the Promenade and coastal road bearing the brunt of its force.

The Mad Dog run was cancelled in anticipation of the storm hitting the resort late last night and part of the route is now heavily flooded, justifying the concerns of race organisers.

Cars are being forced to proceed with caution near to Southport Pier due to heavy flooding on the carriageway.

Trains have been delayed due to branches on the line and elderly people and pregnant women are being told to stay indoors and travel only if it is essential.
