Litter rules are same for all in Southport

By On The Spot News4th August 2016

Litter rules are the same for all in Southport

Contractors and employees of Sefton Council will be treated the same as everyone else when they drop cigarette but or other litter.

Councillor Tony Dawson took up the matter with senior council managers when OTSNews.co.uk exposed a sefton litter warden dropping a cigarette butt in Southport’s Coronation Walk. He says:

“I was reassured to be informed that the person concerned had been issued a fixed penalty and that the same had happened recently to Sefton Council staff who litteredwhile smoking outside their own workplace.”

“The public need to be reassured that there are not different rules for different classes of people.  In the same vein, I am presently assisting a member of the public in connection with an alleged perversion of justice by two police officers.”

“What I would like to see, however, is a more focused effort on the real problems of littering including fly tipping – as well as dog mess.  Catching smokers outside the town’s pubs may be an easy way of racking up fines. It does not address the worst problems.”
