Liberal Democrats to lay empty plates outside MPs office in food poverty protest

27th October 2020
Empty plates are placed outside a Conservative office in Southend.

Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Councillor Andy Corkhill will join Councillor Kris Brown, Liberal Democrat candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner as well as Liberal Democrat councillors from Southport to protest outside Damien Moore MP’s constituency office.

The protest will take place on Tuesday 27th October at 4pm outside Damien Moore’s office on Post Office Avenue.

The team will also be joined by local residents angry about the decision to scrap free school meals over the half term holidays.

Paper plates with the words ‘Feed Hungry Children Now!” will be placed outside the office with personalised messages for the MP on the back, urging Mr Moore to lobby the government to change their position.

The protest comes after Southport MP Damien Moore abstained on a Labour motion calling for the government to provide free meals to struggling families during half term.

Several Conservative offices around the country have had empty plates placed outside in protest, notably in Southend.
