21st January 2021

One of Southport’s most influential businessmen has died, aged 94.

Herbert Silcock Snr, a pioneer of Southport’s leisure industry, sadly passed away earlier this week.

Mr Silcock established himself with rides at Southport Fairground along with his wife Jane Silcock following the success of his father and grandfather, who ran Silcock’s Travelling Fairs.

The family has worked in the entertainment and leisure industry for over 130 years across five generations, and run several Southport premises including Funland and Neville Street amusements.

In the early 1980’s Mr Silcock and his wife opened their first family amusement centre in Coronation Walk along with their three children Herbert Jnr, Pauline and Mark to form the Silcock Leisure Group.
