Sefton Council is set to launch a significant investment into its leisure offering across the borough in order to improve facilities and better meet the needs of its users.

Dunes Splash World, Southport, Crosby Lakeside and Meadows, Maghull have all been identified as suitable for the works following extensive research into fitness trends, public health and customer feedback.

Following a tender process that began in August, improvements including, a mezzanine floor fitness suite at Dunes Splash World, group fitness studios at Crosby Lakeside and Meadows plus an equipment refresh are all set to commence between the end of September and early October.

Sefton Council is also currently considering tenders for the installation of outdoor 3G football pitches at Dunes Splash World with a decision expected in October.

The new fitness suite at Dunes Splash World will increase the space to 500sqf to include:

  • Functional Exercise Space
  • Strength Conditioning Space
  • Suspension Training Area
  • Latest Cardio Vascular / Strength Equipment

While the new group fitness studios at Crosby Lakeside and Meadows will allow the centres to increase their class offering.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “These improvement works demonstrate Sefton Council’s commitment to improving public health across the borough even during the current testing times for local Government.

“We have a proud history of investing in our leisure infrastructure and we can boast fantastic and unique facilities such as Crosby Lakeside and Litherland Sports Park among our portfolio.

“We also run important community schemes such as Everybody Active, Be Active, Street Games and Move It, which all play a vital part in improving health and wellbeing across the borough, providing opportunities for every resident regardless of fitness level or age.

“Everyone at Sefton Council has worked tirelessly to ensure that the scheme is economically viable and we believe that, once completed, the updated centres will help increase vital revenue streams allowing us to better meet our savings targets outlined by central Government.

“I look forward to the opening the improved facilities and I hope that Sefton’s residents are as excited as us at this news.”

The improvements works are expected to be completed towards the end of 2015 and start of 2016.
