Last Ditch Damian Throws in the Preston Towel

Last Ditch Damian Throws in the Preston Towel.

Preston City Councillor Damien Moore has left it to the absolute last minute before resigning his Greyfriars Ward (Fullwood) Council seat so that there can be a new City councillor elected in May.
Councillor Moore, otherwise known as Southport‘s Conservative MP, has hardly attended any Preston council meetings during the year that he has been MP. He has, however, continued to claim his Preston City Councillor’s allowance as well as his inflation-busting MP salary.
It is not known why Councillor Moore has remained a Preston City Councillor throughout the ten months since the General Election when he clearly could not be in three places (Preston, Westminster and Southport) at once –  but received public money totalling roughly £80,000 for all three activities.
One clue why Damien has deprived voters of proper representation for almost an entire year might be that in May 2017, only a few weeks before the General Election, he stood for election in a County Council ward in north Preston and was beaten there by the Liberal Democrats. Clearly, if he had resigned his City Council seat immediately after the General Election, it was likely that this would have handed another council victory to the Lib Dems who had just defeated him.
