Southport fisherman Olly R got a reel shock while fishing at Mere Lane Fisheries near Southport tonight (Thursday 9th August 2012 – when he caught a three foot long sturgeon.

Olly, aged 9, and his uncle Darren, 30, took half an hour to land the 14lb 7oz fish.  The sturgeon was caught on a rod about six feet from the side of the lake on a size 10 hook using 6lb line.

The fish was landed at 8:00pm using luncheon meat.

As you can see in the photograph above they were delighted with their catch.  It was only Olli’s second time in his life at fishing.

The fish was placed back in the water straight after being landed.
