Lake is more plastic than water claim furious residents

Southport’s marine lake is swimming with rubbish. Piles of plastics and rubbish are bobbing up at the edges of Marine Lake and residents around the area are getting fed up.

One woman, Sharon Bradshaw Yates, said that Sefton Council should get their act together and clean it up.

The lake is a hotspot for vandalism and dumping stolen goods. The last time it was drained bin men took away a number of push bikes and items which had been stolen from the town centre only to be ditched when the police hunted down the thieves.

Environmental groups have condemned the amount of plastic which has been thrown into the lake or blown in by the recent bad weather.
