Labour vote down last minute reprieve proposed by Conservatives

At the budget meeting last night28th February, the Conservatives proposed a last minute budget amendment to give our Libraries a chance of survival. with the option of volunteers helping to save our libraries.   The Conservatives put forwards the following,

To remove the Libraries as a budget saving and use a £150,000 from the community transitional fund to allow  the time to train volunteers to help run our  libraries and supply a vital service to our residents.

Cllr Terry Jones said ” the transitional fund has been put in place to help communities that are struggling to deal with these cuts, well our communities will find it difficult when these libraries are closed. if the scheme is a success and ahead of schedule any remaining funds can be put back into the community fund. the scheme could also be used to roll out other volunteer services if proved a success”.

“it was a chance for Labour to pull back from the brink and save these vital community hubs, but unfortunately they stuck to their guns and voted in favour to continue with closures, I’m very disappointed and feel that our residents who have been encouraged to have their say have been ignored.”

Within minutes of the cabinet agreeing on the proposal I received a telephone call from a resident with four children, no Computer and no printer, and this will cause great hardship. these are the people Labour claim to represent, yet today turned their back on them by taking away this vital service.
