Labour MPs must oppose May’s deal or face deselection, say campaigners

17th March 2019

Theresa May has indicated that she will put her deal to a vote again this Tuesday, 20th March. With the DUP and eurosceptic ERG group of Tory MPs undecided about how they will vote, the votes of potential rebel Labour MPs could be crucial.

Responding to this, Michael Chessum, national organiser for the left wing group Another Europe is Possible, said:
“The truth is that Labour will not be forgiven by the electorate if Labour votes get May’s deal over the line. No deal is off the table, and there can be no excuses. The whole labour movement – from the leadership, to the unions, to the rank and file of the party – must do everything within their power to make it clear to MPs that if they fail to oppose May’s deal, they will cannot represent the party at the next election.”
