Labour Council Leaders Guilty of Double Speak
John Pugh, the only non-Labour MP in the Liverpool City Region has criticised the Merseyside Council Leaders for being “conned” by Tory Government ministers.
It was only two weeks ago that they told us that they had secured a great deal through the City Region Deal and this week the local government settlement shows that money continues to be drained away from the area.
City Region deals mask the extent of cuts and are bogus attempts to sugar the pill. The only thing they have done so far is to put a little more into the hands of the council leaders. Council leaders were falling over themselves to praise the deals and falling for the Tory version of the Three Card Trick.
