20th March 2018

LIVERPOOL BASED MARTIAL ARTS FOUNDATION, THE KIZUNA BROTHERHOOD, SUPPORT THE MARIE CURIE HOPSICE IN WOOLTON FOR 3RD YEAR RUNNING WITH DONATION OF OVER £1000

On Sunday March 4th, 51 senior martial artists descended on Liverpool from all over the UK and Europe too.

The 9th Old Ways Seminar (seniors) was led by Kizuna Brotherhood President, Peter McDowell (7th Dan) and the international legendary Liverpool martial artist that is Terry O’Neill (8th Dan).

The Junior seminar was led by Liverpool Shaolin Karate Club Chief Instructor Harris Jonas (7th Dan), Guy Keen (6th Dan), Steve Catt (5th Dan) and Lucienne Galea (4th Dan) who had flown over from Malta to attend the seminar.

100% of the profit from the Old Ways seminar is donated to The Marie Curie Hospice in Liverpool – GM Colwell and his wife both benefited from their skill and expertise in the final months and years of their lives. This year’s seminar raised an incredible £1,149 that was handed over to the Marie Curie on Sunday. This now brings the running total to almost £3,000 that has been donated by The Kizuna Brotherhood since 2015.

The Old Ways Seminar is in its 9th year and is held in memory of former World Champion and International Martial Arts Legend, GM Ronnie Colwell.

Born in Liverpool in 1934, Ronnie Colwell went on to become one of only three British people to achieve the highest rank possible, that of 10th Dan ju-jitsu and karate master, a prestigious title that was awarded four years before his death in 2015. Since his death, he was posthumously honoured by The Lord Mayor of Liverpool and has an exhibition in The Museum of Liverpool to mark his glittering career.
