Just over a year ago Southport Beach played host to the largest human poppy in the world made by 5,821 children from schools in Southport, Formby and across Sefton.

The huge poppy was around 50 metres in diameter and saw almost 6000 school children dressed in red, green and black to create. The record was officially verified by Guinness World Record adjudicators and beat the record set earlier in the year by children in Hampshire by 3,571.

The initiative which was organised by Sefton Council was a way of commemorating all those who died and who served in World War One, which occurred 100 years ago this time last year. 49 schools took part from all over Sefton including many from Southport.
