Southport Lib Dem MP John Pugh received a big boost today as Conservative Peer Lord Ashcroft published a poll of the voting intention of residents living in over a dozen key marginal seats.
For the first time, multi-millionaire Lord Ashcroft included Southport in the constituencies where he had over 1000 individual voters polled by telephone to see how they say they would vote in the constituencies concerned. The poll was conducted without naming the candidates: sitting MPs tend to do better when the candidates are named than when they are not.

When Lord Ashcroft’s team asked people how they intended to vote in the particular constituency where they lived, the results of this month’s polls are shown below.

Lord Ashcroft’s team also asked the voters which political Parties had been in contact with them over the past few weeks. The Lib Dems came top, having contacted nearly a quarter of all households in the town, over three times as many as any other Party.
