Letters have been sent out to Southport residents in PR9 who live around the promenade and Marine Lake area of the town.
Residents in Marine Gate and Leicester Street have been sent letters warning them that the water supply in the surrounding area may be contaminated after a number of complaints over the smell.
One Marine Gate resident, who sent a copy of the letter to OTS News, said “we all had letters through the door today to say that the local supply needs investigating by United Utilities.
“When we run the tap it stinks of TCP! It’s been giving off that strange smell for over 24 hours now so we are a little wary of using it. My husband had had two showers in it since though so I don’t think he’s too worried unless he drinks it!
“The stench is very off putting and we’re now boiling the kettle with bottled water until we know it’s fixed.”
“It’s a farce!”
