Hundreds get colourful, as the Southport Colour Blast returns for its second year

13th July 2017

Hundreds get colourful, as the Southport Colour Blast returns for its second year.

Returning for a second year, the event is hoping to raise over £10,000 for local sight loss charity, Galloway’s.

Over 300 participants took on the 5k course round Princes Park and Marine Lake, Southport, having powder colour thrown at them while they ran, walked, hopped, skipped or even danced their way to the finishing line.

Lisa Abraham, who ran the 5k course with her boys, reported: ‘Our little boys had an amazing time at the Colour run in Southport. They are 9 and 7 and ran the whole 5k without stopping. My Grandma was partially sighted and so this run was close to home for us as a family. Hopefully Galloway’s will raise lots of funds to continue to help people living with sight loss.’

Galloway’s spends over £1 million each year to provide its services for blind and partially sighted people across Sefton and Lancashire, with the majority of this money being raised through donations, legacies and events like the Colour Blast. This year’s runners are being encouraged to return their sponsorship money, to the Galloway’s Office on Wright Street, by Friday 8th September.

Anna Eddowes-Scott, fundraiser at the charity, said: “I am delighted with how this year’s Colour Blast went. The whole day had a buzz of excitement from start to finish and we have had lots of great feedback from all of those involved in the event. We would like to send a huge colour-tastic thank you to each and every one of our Colour Blast supporters, this includes, sponsors, volunteers, staff, spectators and of course all our wonderful runners.”

This year’s Colour Blast was supported by several Southport businesses including: Southport College & KGV (Main Event Sponsors), Specsavers (Medal Sponsors), Anytime Fitness (Toilet & Purple Station Sponsors), Ocean Plaza (Water Sponsors), Bibby Financial (Red Station Sponsors) and Sandgrounder Radio (Green Station Sponsors).
