Huge Lotto Winnings in New Zealand

19th July 2021

Summer 2021 has changed the lives of two New Zealand players for good. They purchased lotto tickets at Bayfair, Mount Maunganui, and MyLotto, Taupo, and won $500,000. Bayfair, by the way, is a generator of winning tickets: earlier this year they have already sold two million-dollar tickets. However, the Powerball is still standing and anyone has a chance to become richer by $6 million.

If you decide to try your luck and purchase a ticket at Bayfair, don’t forget to write your name on the backside of the ticket and check it either at the Lotto NZ app, any lotto outlet, or on the official website. Previous 2021 wins

This year has been extremely fruitful on winnings. In January, an anonymous player from Mount Maunganui won the Lotto First Division and bagged $1 million. The ticket was purchased at Bayfair as well. Isn’t it great proof that you can play lotto online and win real money without spending much?

Four months later, in May, Mount Maunganui was in the news once again. The winning ticket made its owner a millionaire and helped to increase the Powerball up to $14 million.

Different ways to play the game

One of the things that players love about New Zealand’s lotto is the huge variety of ways to enjoy it. You can choose Dip and let the system pick numbers automatically, select the numbers on your own, or even create a favorite ticket. Other engaging ways to play include:

  • Subscriptions. You pay for a 3,6, or 12 months subscription and no longer have to worry about missing the draws.
  • Text service. After setting a certain Powerball level, you’ll receive a text reminder that the jackpot is high and you should purchase a ticket. Simply answer ‘yes’ in the message and the rest will be done automatically.
  • Official app. It gives Kiwis a huge number of opportunities: to purchase lotto and keno tickets, play online games, scan paper tickets, and much more. It is available at App Store and Play Market.
  • Team play. Together with family, friends, and coworkers you can start a lottery syndicate and get a brand-new experience.

About New Zealand Lotteries Commission

Also known as the Lotto New Zealand, it operates lotteries in the country. It has been founded back in 1987 and works according to the Gambling Act 2003. There are different games on offer including lotto, keno, and scratch cards. Lotto’s top prize reaches millions of dollars and is the most popular game at the moment. Online games or Instant Kiwi, can be played by locals who are older than 18 years. When purchasing a lotto ticket, you can opt for extra features – Lotto Strike and Powerball.

Profits from the lotteries are managed by the NZ Lottery Grants Board. Which, in turn, uses these funds for arts, sports, recreation, and other social programs. Since 1987, the board has received over $4 billion of contributions. The main recipients of the funds are Creative New Zealand and the NZ Film Commission.

The first lotto game took place on August 1, 1987, and the top prize equaled $359,808. Other games were added later: Instant Kiwi in 1989, Lotto Strike and Keno in 1993 and 1994, Powerball – 2001, and Bullseye – 2009.

The biggest prize that was won by one ticket equaled $44,066,667. The Powerball draw took place on November 9, 2016. The ticket was purchased at Dairy Flat Food, Auckland. The 1593 draw, by the way, has set another record – the biggest number of tickets sold. And it is not surprising, considering such a high jackpot!

Lotto is always a great idea

For many years, lotto remains one of the most popular games. It has simple rules, doesn’t require any equipment, and offers low entrance fees. You don’t even have to watch the draw because the ticket can be checked later. Players who want to get familiar with the world of gambling should definitely try the lotto. The risks are low but you are guaranteed to have lots of fun. Who knows, maybe you are the next Powerball winner?
