Huge 60-foot tree falls in Hesketh Park

27th November 2021

A huge tree as big as a transit van has collapsed in a Southport park.

The massive tree in Hesketh Park was ripped up by its roots after winds of over 70mph ripped through the resort causing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of destruction.

Countless trees, bins, fence panels and roof tiles have been destroyed in the wake of Storm Arwen in Southport.

Hesketh Park remains open this morning but rangers have said some entrances may be blocked off as they deal with at least four trees which collapsed in the park.

With winds still strong and more bad weather due to hit the town in the next 24 hours, vulnerable residents have been advised by Merseyside Fire and Rescue to stay indoors and remain there unless absolutely necessary.
