Home-Start’s success at Awards Evening

Edgehill University chose Home-Start Southport & Formby to be the winner of the ‘Voluntary Organisation of the Year’ Award at a celebration evening on 28 March. Home-Start is a family support charity that offers friendship, emotional support and practical help to families in Southport and Formby.

Home-Start  was chosen for the “outstanding support” they gave to their volunteers. Edgehill student , Amy Magill, nominated the charity because she had received training, support and practical experience as a volunteer which will help her get into a job when she graduates. Edgehill University believe that volunteering makes graduates more employable. Amy said, “I received Home-Start help when my son was born and I was finding things tough, so now I feel I can give something back to the charity. Volunteering has helped me to increase my confidence, develop new skills and added practical experience to my CV”.

Home-Start manager, Annie Ives, said, “Amy has been an amazing volunteer, full of energy and enthusiasm, and I believe that the experience she has gained in her volunteer role will help her in the future. I am pleased and proud to have won the award as it recognises the work of our charity and the commitment the volunteers give to local families.”

Home-Start are looking for more volunteers that can spare 2 -3 hours each week to help a local family. If you are a parent or carer and would like to help, please contact Annie on 01704 233323, for more information.
