Hillside Micropub forced to shut to protect staff and customers

6th October 2020

A popular micropub and bar in Hillside has announced it will temporarily close its physical premises completely, despite having no confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

The much loved owners of the Grasshopper Pub, Angie and Andrew, say that due to the rapidly increasing local infection rates, they are taking no chances.

Takeaway services and online alcohol purchases remain an option for regulars and lovers of real ales and wines.

Since announcing the closure there has been an outpouring of support for the decision, which was not taken lightly by the couple.

A joint statement issued by the pair said “As the safety of our Customers and staff is paramount to us at The Grasshopper.

“We have endeavoured to operate in a covid secure manner and have followed all Govt Guidance.

“We are pleased to say that we have had no incidents of infection in our staff or customers.

“However with the rapily increasing infection rate locally we feel that it will only be a matter of time before a customer is exposed to the virus.

“We have decided to put everyones safety ahead of profit and have taken the difficult decision to close for a short period.

“We will continue to offer home delivery for fresh real ale and cider and wine via our online shop, and have extended our delivery area.
