Police have tonight cordoned off Hawkshead Street bridge after what is suspected to be a suspected acid attack (Saturday 9 September 2017).

Unconfirmed reports sent into OTS News suggest that an acid attack, similar to those seen recently in the nations capital, has sadly taken place in Southport shortly before 11pm this evening.

The road remains closed to traffic and police are diverting cars around the bridge while an investigation is carried out.

A neighbour who lives close to the bridge contacted our editorial team to say that they believe an acid attack had taken place and the male victim, who is as yet unidentified, has been rushed to hospital suffering burns to their face.

Fire Services attend the scene
