Hatisfaction guaranteed at specialist dementia day service

It was hats off to some high-quality headgear when staff at a specialist Southport day service for people with dementia organised an Easter bonnet competition for clients at the weekend.

The competition at Brookdale Resource Centre in Ainsdale – run by leading Sefton adult social care provider, New Directions – was the centrepiece of a range of Easter-themed activities.

The contest attracted a wide variety of creative entries, with prizes being awarded to the top hat-trick of designs.

Elsewhere, there was a special Easter afternoon tea with live entertainment provided by popular Southport-based singer Kate Roberts.

Kate’s varied repertoire of musical memories perfectly complemented the seasonal fayre served by staff to service users and their guests, which included a range of delicious Easter cakes.

Brookdale Service Manager, Salwa Moustafa, commented: “Our staff put a lot of time and effort into our Easter activities this year and I’m delighted at how they turned out, and the many positive comments we have received.

“Along with a very enjoyable performance from our talented singer, an Easter egg for every service user and the special Easter cards they made for their families, it all added up to a great way to celebrate this special time of year.”

Brookdale Resource Centre enables the carers of service users with advanced dementia to have an important respite break.

Clients enjoy a wide range of activities at the centre including arts and crafts, sensory stimulation and music and reminiscence therapies.
