Lancashire Day (November 27)

by
25th November 2015
Lancashire Day in Southport this year is dedicated to two proud Lancastrians who loved Southport but sadly are no longer with us but very much still in our thoughts.
David Pearson, Ex Southport Councillor, Dukes Ward and Mayor of Sefton.
Brian Naylor,Member of The Southport Party and renowned local campaigner.
West Lancashire Town Crier,Don Evans, will be reading the Lancashire Day Proclamation at 1-00pm on Friday November 27th,Chapel St/Cambridge Arcade entrance (note new location) and the clock tower in the Market Place,Ormskirk at 12 noon which allows us the opportunity to celebrate and declare that we are proud to be Lancastrians. On this day in 1295 the first elected representatives from Lancashire were called to Westminster by King Edward 1 to attend what latter became known as ‘The Model Parliament’ which was the start of democracy in Great Britain. The Proclamation will be read out by Town Criers throughout the county to rouse regional pride and at 9.00pm Lancastrians are invited to join the loyal toast to The Queen,The Duke of Lancaster.Remember if you were born between the river Duddon in the North and the river Mersey in the South you are first and foremost a Lancastrian no legislation as ever changed the traditional county boundaries.
