Girls team set off on virtual European tour for charity

15th November 2020

We might be without football over the next few weeks but one young girls team in Southport are not letting that stop them.

Churchtown AFC Girls are going on a virtual Road Trip across the Top 5 European Stadiums. We aim to cover the distance by walking, running or cycling as a collective.

A spokesperson for the team said “we do have an exciting challenge for the girls, parents and coaches to get involved with!! Over the last few months we have come to recognise the importance exercise has on our mental health and therefore we want to take this opportunity to keep active physically and mentally whilst also raising money for a fantastic charity.

Since Xmas last year we have not played alot of football, due to weather and the two lockdowns, mixed with being isolated from friends and family and many of the girls starting high school in this bizarre time it’s been hard and we had to think of stuff we can do to help Promote healthy minds and keep them active..

Our head coach Molly Parker came up with a fundraising challenge where as a team we will all walk, run or cycle 4750km a European tour of five of the biggest stadiums in Europe. This is to Help Keep the girls active and also to help. Raise money for Young Minds charity.
