Southport is all set for the launch of Mighty Radio on the FM wavelength this Monday (April 1) from 8am.

The community radio station was awarded an FM licence by OFCOM last year and the dedicated Mighty team have been hard at work sorting out a town centre location in Hoghton Street, plus erecting an FM aerial on top of nearby Holy Trinity Church.

“It’s been a great challenge and hard work building a studio and meeting all the OFCOM rules and regulations, but it’s also been worth every minute,” said 32-year-old station manager Paul Tasker (pictured).

Paul, a Southport father of two, has been involved in local radio since the age of 15 when he joined Dune FM, and he’s determined Mighty Radio will be a huge success.

“We’re so proud to be bringing a full-time FM local radio station back to Southport,” he said. “We will very much be part of our local community and we want our listeners to get involved with all our shows.”

The station launches at 8am on Monday on 107.9 FM with the Trevor Ford Breakfast Show, sponsored by Southport-based All White Taxis.

Trevor and fellow co-owner David Quinn return with their hilarious show every Sunday from 8pm.

Mid-mornings will be with Cassie James while Paul Tasker will host Drivetime, which is sponsored by The Fire Pit in West Street.

Also making a return will be Martin Hovden and Cameron Maerevoet who host Live Sounds, a platform for local bands and singers, every Tuesday from 6pm-10pm.

Baz Todd and Rob Charles, very well-known names in the radio industry, will also have their own shows.

Specialist evening shows will be hosted by Angie Ryan, Andy Curtis, Elaine Goy, Barry and Lyn, Chris Strefford, Chris Ironside, Frankie Berlin, Alex Woolfall, Phil King, Woz Rimmer and Scott Harrison.

Weekend shows will be hosted by Mark Gregson, Russ Broadbent, Karen Pate, Maria and Tony, Bob Myers, Kevin Peet and Sean Connolly.

So make sure you tune into Mighty Radio on 107.9 FM. You can also still hear Mighty online on www.mightysouthport.co.uk
