Galloway’s Society for the Blind (Southport branch) tried something new this month by joining with YMCA to give blind and partially sighted people the opportunity to try out the climbing wall. 5 people took turns to be roped up to an instructor and then be given verbal directions as to where to place their hands and feet so they could climb the wall.
This was the first in a series of monthly visits to the YMCA and was supported by the Mayor of Sefton who had come to support the first brave climbers.
The picture shows the Mayor assisting the instructor as one climber abseils back down the wall, having just climbed his way to the top.
Since this event we have now booked three more on the first Friday of the month in April, May and June.
