Funeral arrangement for Michael Clarke

OTS News is saddened to report the death of popular Southport man, Michael Clarke.

Michael Clarke aged 74 died at Southport Hospital last week, one day before his 31st wedding anniversary with wife Rose.

Michael, One of eight siblings born to Irish parents, Michael grew up in High Park and attended Our Lady of Lourdes School. He began working at Radcliffe’s paint factory at age 16 before becoming an apprentice jockey in Wetherby.

His involvement in horse racing saw him work alongside the legendary Red Rum trainer Don McCain and he later moved back to Southport and spent many years working self-employed as a painter and decorator, becoming hugely popular and well-known across the town.

Michael retired in his late 60s and spent his free time with family, including gradson Jacob, and enjoying his hobbies of gardening and horse racing.

Michael’s funeral will take place at Southport Crematorium 12:40pm on Thursday 14th March.
