Firefighters were called to a fire at a property on Sandbrook Road, Ainsdale, Southport yesterday (Monday, 2nd April).

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 10.34am and crews were alerted at 10.35am. They were on scene at 10.41am.

Three fire engines attended the incident and on arrival crews found that four people had been rescued from the fire by a neighbour and a member of the public. All four people were treated at the scene by ambulance crews and taken to hospital for further checks.

Crews also rescued a number of pets from the property including a cat and a dog. The cat was subsequently resuscitated at the scene with crews using a specialist animal oxytherapy kit.

Two teams of firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used a main hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have started in the front room of the property.

The front room, front landing, stairs and front bedroom of the property were all severely severely damaged by fire; the rest of the property was damaged by heat and smoke.

Firefighters remained at the incident for approximately three and a half hours.
