Former Southport Councillor to stand in South Ribble election

10th November 2019

The South Ribble Democrats have today formally adopted local experienced campaigner, JO BARTON at their Campaign Launch to fly the flag in the constituency of South Ribble at the General Election on 12th December.

JO BARTON knows the area well having grown up here firstly in Leyland, and then in Tarleton and Hesketh Bank. She has also served on Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council while living just across the border in Churchtown.

She has set out the four priorities in the Liberal Democrat plan for a brighter future.

· JO is campaigning to stop a damaging Brexit and instead invest the £50 billion Remain bonus from increased growth by staying in the EU.

· She is committed to tackling the climate emergency by generating 80% of our electricity from renewables by 2030 and insulating all low-income homes by 2025.

· As a mother of five nearly grown children, Jo wants to give every child the best start in life by recruiting 20,000 more teachers as part of an extra £10 billion a year for schools and build a fairer economy by providing free childcare from nine months.

· She will back the transformation of our mental health services by treating mental health as urgently as physical health.

Said JO, “I am proud to be standing as the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, campaigning for a forward-thinking, outward-looking vision for South Ribble. One where we stop Brexit and build a brighter future.
