TV viewers watched former Sandgrounders star Carl Baker help his Coventry side beat Preston North End 3-2 in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Northern SF at Ricoh Arena last night after a dramatic injury time comeback.

Jennings put City in front four minutes before half-time, with a close range shot after Edjenguele had headed Carl Baker’s free-kick across goal.

North End levelled the match from a corner in the 67th minute as Luke Foster header that hit defender Blair Adams on the way in.

The visitors thought they had won it 10 minutes from time but former Sandgrounder star  levelled two minutes into time added with a low strike at the back post after good work from Franck Moussa.   Debutant Leon Clarke then completed the unlikely turn around, walking the ball in for his first City goal after Steve Simonsen parried Baker’s initial 20-yard shot.

The former Sandgrounder star has put his heavy drinking days firmly behind himself since leaving Southport Football Club.
