Former MP Pugh backs Berger over “truly appalling” Corbyn antisemitic mural

Southport’s former MP John Pugh has given his full backing to Luciana Berger, Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree. She has been in the forefront of condemnation of her party’s Leader, Jeremy Corbyn over his previous support for a grossly offensive anti-Semitic mural in London.

The mural featured grotesque Jewish caricatures and has been described as being ‘in a style reminiscent of Nazi propaganda in the 1930s’. Mr Corbyn’s excuse for his support was that he ‘did not look more closely at the image’.

“I completely agree with Luciana when she condemns this as ‘one of the worst examples of antisemitic imagery’,” says Southport’s former Lib Dem MP John Pugh.

“It beggars belief that in 2012, after it had been painted over, the Labour Leader voiced his support to the person responsible for creating this truly appalling image.”

This latest row comes just days after Jeremy Corbyn came under attack for his muted response to Russian government involvement in the Salisbury Nerve Agent attack which led to the UK expelling 23 Russian diplomats earlier this month.

“On key issues Corbyn has failed to display good judgement or provide proper leadership,” says Cllr Pugh.

“Stubbornly he just doesn’t seem to want to acknowledge facts that don’t fit in with his simplistic, ideological world view. That’s a recipe for disaster.”
