Firefighters breath new life into smoke suffering pets

7th October 2017

Fire engines in Southport have been kitted out with pet- friendly oxygen masks.

Six kits are now being carried on fire engines, thanks to a partnership between Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and a national charity called ‘Smokey Paws.’
The kits have been paid for by donations from kind-hearted animal lovers and are specially tailored for cats, dogs and other household pets – even snakes! The kits also include oxygen tubes, muzzles and a slip lead in case an animal becomes agitated while being rescued.

They range in size and can also accommodate larger animals such as sheep and horses, and are designed to fit snugly around the snout of animals to ensure a better flow of oxygen.
